Sports massages
Who should get them?

Do you have to be a hard core athlete to get a sports massage? No.

The idea behind sports massage is to manipulate the body’s soft tissues, and focus on certain muscle groups, depending upon which sport you’re playing.

This type of massage can help with increased blood flow, improved flexibility, and enhanced athletic performance, sports massage can be used by athletes of all abilities to prepare for, or recover from athletic or sports events.

“Even if you aren’t an athlete, sports massage may help with muscle pain or restricted range of motion,” pointed out Academy Massage Therapy owner, Debby MacKenzie.

“As with any type of massage, the treatment offers a multitude of benefits.”

How does sports massage differ from a regular massage?

In sports massage, the strokes are generally faster than a typical Swedish massage, and may also include compression, pressure point therapy, friction and joint mobilization.

“We recommend that you provide a short description of your concerns, when you book your appointment. And when you come in, before your massage begins, you have a short discussion with your massage therapist,” Debby also said. “Sharing these details, ensure you receive a focused treatment.”

So as the season of recreational, amateur and professional sports begins, and continues through the winter months - listen to your body, and give us a call. Academy Massage is here for you whether you need help with recovery or maintaining muscle suppleness and pliancy.
