Academy Massage Therapy is taking appointments from 10 am to 3 pm on Monday, August 6th. These somewhat reduced hours will allow our clients time for a massage, and our staff, time to enjoy summer.
Originally called the Civic Holiday, Winnipeggers revelled in their first mid-summer long weekend in 1874 - in a perceived need for citizens to have another “day of relaxation” during the summer.
It’s also interesting to note the first references to Civic Holidays appear to have come from cities in Ontario (then known as Upper Canada) well before that date - 1856 in London, 1861 for Toronto, and Hamilton 1862.
Back then, this extra day off was celebrated as shops were closed, picnic baskets packed, and people headed out on foot, carriages, trains and steamers to get away from it all.
So 144 years, after the first Civic Holiday was declared in Winnipeg - use this day as a reason, or even an excuse to wander about. Enjoy the day at The Forks, Kildonan, Assiniboine or Peanut Park. Paddle along the Red, Assiniboine or Seine Rivers. Drive to Lockport, Grand Beach or the Peace Gardens.
Breathe deeply. Pack a lunch. Head out.
Much love,
Academy Massage Therapy
