INTRODUCING MORGAN McCAUGHAN

Registered Massage Therapist (RMT)

Received her certification five years ago.

Specializes in:
• deep tissue - is similar to Swedish massage. The deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).

cupping - loosens muscles, encourages blood flow, sedates the nervous system. Used to relieve back and neck pain, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, rheumatism and even cellulite.

pre- and post-natal massage - is well known for relaxation, stress reduction, pain relief and other health benefits. Unique postpartum benefits include hormone regulation, reduced swelling, better sleep and improved breastfeeding.

myofascial release - puts light, sustained pressure on client’s soft tissues to release fascial blockages and restrictions. The techniques lengthen fascia, and frees up muscles to create greater flexibility, reduces pain and increases immune function.

Active as a young teen in - hockey, soccer, golf and slow pitch - Morgan was about 14 years old when she first recognized the benefits of massage for those who are into sports.

After considering nursing as a career choice, in her late teens, Morgan became aware of the courses offered at the Massage Therapy College of Manitoba, and signed up for their two year program.

“I thought it was an intriguing career,” said Morgan. “And a great way to combine anatomy and physiology, and apply it with hands-on skills!”

After graduating as a registered massage therapist (RMT), Morgan worked at a gym for a couple of years, and then at a few studios around the city, before coming to Academy Massage Therapy about a year ago.

What makes it a good day for her? “I like the satisfaction of helping a client feel better physically, and have a better day,” she said. “It feels good to be able to give relief to clients who have been suffering from a specific injury or chronic pain, and figure out what works for them.”

“It’s an active job,” she noted. “I like working with people - the positive atmosphere, the team atmosphere. And I’ve got a great boss!”

It’s the quality!

Because of its consistent high quality - Academy Massage Therapy ranks among the top three Winnipeg massage therapy studios for 2018.

This determination was announced at the beginning of the month by Best Three Rated, an organization developed with the expressed goal of identifying companies across a variety of service sectors that operate at the level of general excellence.

The review team which makes determinations, bases their work on a 50-Point inspection which includes a review of the reputation, history, complaints, ratings, satisfaction, trust and cost, as it relates to the business.

“This place has a wonderful atmosphere. I’ve been several times to a few different massage therapists, and each one has been excellent. The massage therapists have been friendly and professional. Everyone makes you feel welcome and makes sure you’re comfortable. The space is nicely decorated with a sunny waiting area. I’ll be back,” exclaimed one review.

And detailed rating notes added, “(Academy Massage) uses an integrated approach combining different techniques and customizing the massage to each client’s individual needs - gift cards are available - provides direct billing to insurance companies.”

“I believe this is our third win,” said a pleased Debby MacKenzie, owner of Academy Massage Therapy.

Three Best Rated provides ratings for businesses, professionals, restaurants and more.

We can all help in this heat

It’s blistering hot in Winnipeg. We can make it make easier for those who are having a tough time, if we lend a helping hand.

Donated water in being distributed by Siloam Mission to people who are vulnerable, and by Habitat for Humanity to volunteers who build affordable housing. News organizations have indicated that with the extreme and persistent heat, these organizations are now running out of bottled water.

Academy Massage Therapy wants you to know about this situation. Please help Siloam Mission and Habitat for Humanity if you are able. You can make a donation, or drop off some bottled water to these organizations. Or share this call for help with your neighbours, friends, and family.

Along with a number of other Winnipeg companies, we are working with the World of Water to provide bottled water to these groups.

Thank you for your help.

Much love,

Ahhhh, the (August) long weekend...

Academy Massage Therapy is taking appointments from 10 am to 3 pm on Monday, August 6th. These somewhat reduced hours will allow our clients time for a massage, and our staff, time to enjoy summer.

Originally called the Civic Holiday, Winnipeggers revelled in their first mid-summer long weekend in 1874 - in a perceived need for citizens to have another “day of relaxation” during the summer.

It’s also interesting to note the first references to Civic Holidays appear to have come from cities in Ontario (then known as Upper Canada) well before that date - 1856 in London, 1861 for Toronto, and Hamilton 1862.

Back then, this extra day off was celebrated as shops were closed, picnic baskets packed, and people headed out on foot, carriages, trains and steamers to get away from it all.

So 144 years, after the first Civic Holiday was declared in Winnipeg - use this day as a reason, or even an excuse to wander about. Enjoy the day at The Forks, Kildonan, Assiniboine or Peanut Park. Paddle along the Red, Assiniboine or Seine Rivers. Drive to Lockport, Grand Beach or the Peace Gardens.

Breathe deeply. Pack a lunch. Head out.

Much love,
Academy Massage Therapy
